The British are coming!

Posted by: Java

First it is the American Humans (story in development).

Now the British Humans! And JUST like the American Humans, the British Humans have made their plans available on the internet!  From the BBC:

Here is the definition of "cull" from our favorite online dictionary:

Main Entry: 1cull
Pronunciation: 'k&l
Function: transitive verb
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French cuillir, from Latin colligere to bind together -- more at COLLECT
1 : to select from a group : CHOOSE <culled the best passages from the poet's work>
2 : to identify and remove the culls from
- cullĀ·er noun

Main Entry: 2cull
Function: noun
: something rejected especially as being inferior or worthless <how to separate good-looking pecans from culls -- Washington Post>

Entry Word: cull
Function: verb
Text: to decide to accept (someone or something) from a group of possibilities <cull the best short stories from the author's body of writings>

"Inferior", "worthless", "rejected" -- no respect, that's what this is about, though the Humans claim to have no choice but to do this:

Entry Word: cull
Function: noun
Text: something separated from a group or lot for not being as good as the others <the unbruised apples will be packed in bags, and the culls will be used for cider>
Synonyms discard, reject, rejection
Related Words second, throwaway

They are weaker than grey squirrels, which also carry the Squirrelpox virus.

Mr Knight said the aim was not to completely eradicate the greys, which have a population estimated at more than two million - outnumbering red squirrels by 66 to one.

First of all, there is no such thing as a red squirrel. The Executive Branch has declared them non-existent.

Second, how can you call grey squirrels inferior enough to cull when the Humans plainly acknowledge that those "other" squirrels are weaker?  Who is inferior?  And then blaming the grey squirrels for a disease that CLEARLY by its very NAME applies to ALL squirrels, not just the "undesirables". It's not called "Grey Squirrelpox", now is it? It sounds like they are trying to find excuses to kill you while saving the obviously inferior "other" squirrels.

Grey squirrels were introduced to Britain from North America in the 19th Century and have thrived in lowland areas.

It is thought the cull will use poison to reduce numbers over the next three years.

And this is not an act perpetrated by a small number of Humans. This is a GOVERNMENT SANCTIONED ACTION!  AND IT IS BASED SOLELY ON THE COLOR OF YOUR FUR!

The cull is being jointly organised by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Forestry Commission, after consultation with various groups, including English Nature, the National Trust, the RSPCA and the European Squirrel Initiative.

The Executive Branch cannot interfere in these affairs, but that doesn't mean we can't warn your cousins.  Spread the word:

It is thought the cull will use poison to reduce numbers over the next three years.
